Fat Freezing FAQ's

This depends on your starting size and the area that you want to be treated and your desired outcomes. Some clients only require one session (or handle or treatment) on one area and they are delighted with the results. A normal-weight woman, for example, will obtain approx. 1 -1.5 inches of weight loss from one fat freezing handle on her hip, so with two handles she will lose 2-3 inches of fat.

Most women who have had babies require 2 handles on their lower abdomen – and if their whole belly is round- then will most likely need 4 – 5 handles in a diamond shape. One treatment will give most women a great result- i.e. loss of a dress size however because everyone is so different – with their expectations and their starting shape and size, it is important to speak to us and if possible, attend our fat freezing clinic in Melbourne for a free assessment.

When we conduct fat freezing on men – we normally do 2 or 4 handles on their abdomen. Again, their starting size – the way the fat lays on their body and what their desired outcomes are – all have an impact on how many sessions they should have.

Once the treatment is conducted – there is little you can do to change the number of dead fat cells and hence the amount of fat /weight you will lose. The physical treatment of freezing these cells causes the fat cells to die and hence pass out of your body. Nothing will change this. However, the cleaner your diet (i.e. – low salt, processed foods, carbohydrates, sugar, alcohol, caffeine, fats and oils) the easier it is for your body to process the dead cells through your lymphatic system, liver, kidneys and out of your body. Hence a natural clean green diet will allow you to see the results sooner. Going forward you will need to continue with a healthy diet and exercise program.

Yes – because the fat cells that are killed during the treatment are gone for good. That said we only kill the cells in the treated area not all over your body. Your body has a certain number of fat cells and on some people, they are concentrated on their tummies, outer thighs or inner thighs. So, when we selectively target the fat cells in the area with the fat freezing handles, we reduce the number in that area. Once these fat cells are gone – they are gone. They never return. Therefore, on a physiological basis – we have reduced the number of fat cells in the area and have therefore reduced your weight. The only caveat here is that your existing fat cells (that are located all over your body) - can still get bigger and bigger and therefore you will gain weight. If your energy intake is greater than your energy output, you will convert the energy to fat and store them in your fat cells = weight gain.

No - you won’t grow additional fat cells in the area treated with fat freezing under normal dietary and lifestyle circumstances. The treated cells have been permanently removed from your body.

It is currently believed that we lay down fat cells only twice in our life. At birth and then at puberty. After that, we gain weight and lose weight based on the amount of fat that is stored inside these fat cells. (Of course, there is temporary fluid weight too that will impact the scales on a day to day basis).

The current understanding is that at normal weight these fat cells contract and expand with weight loss and gain. However, with large weight gain - all our body’s fat cells can stretch up to four times their normal size, but then, they can actually split – and therefore become two fat cells, both of which can expand and contract. At this point- you will have doubled the number of fat cells in your body and therefore have more places to store excess energy that you don’t burn.

In the area that we have treated with fat freezing, we have permanently killed, and the dead fat cells have been removed from your body. It will only be the existing fat cells that are left on your body that can grow and contract based on your energy intake and output. This is the current understanding regarding the behaviour of fat cells

This will depend on your starting size and desired outcomes. We can re-treat on an existing area after 30 days.

Physiologically fat freezing would work on all areas of the body – however the recommended areas are: inner and outer thighs, flanks, bra area, chin, under arms, abdomen and knees.

The smaller you are the larger the response will appear. The clinical trials conducted in 2014 proved a 26% reduction in the treated area on the subjects. It is tricky to see 26% - but this looks like an inch on a normal sized women’s’ hip. With multiple treatments on the same area you will continue to reduce fat cells in the targeted area.

Fat freezing works on men too. The physiology of Cryolipolysis is the same for men and women. The targeted tissue is drawn into the fat freezing handle and the cells are taken to -9 degrees centigrade. This causes cell death. Men and women respond the same to treatment and fat freezing for men still requires an assessment for the number of handles or sessions.

The clinical evidence suggests that it takes up to 4 months to see the maximum results, however at the 90 day mark, you can usually see the results. (Over the remaining 30 days your body may get rid of a few more dead cells).

A client can be retreated or repeated sessions after 30 days, however there is nothing to stop you from having treatment in 6 months’ time or greater time on the same area. It is up to you.

Yes, fat freezing is the same as coolsculpting. Coolsculpting is just a trademarked machine name for the technology of fat freezing. If you are searching for fat freezing, coolsculpting is like saying - you are hoovering when you are vacuuming.

We have walked away from packages as we don’t want you to feel pressured into committing to more treatment than you need. Definitely not. There are so many cheap machines on the market that anyone can purchase on-line which do not work as effectively as our fat freezing machine. These vary from $1500 on eBay and Alibaba to $59,000 wrapped and sold in Australia as an Australian brand. On the old technology there are 2 plates inside of the handle that cool the skin. This causes a lumpy result. The cheap machines also have no feedback mechanisms for temperature regulation causing the client to potentially suffer frost bite or burns on their skin. The cheap machines have set temperatures as -5 degrees however staff can override these temperatures, which is fraught with danger, as skin burns or frost bite can cause permanent scarring. We have seen examples of this. The coolsculpting machine offers only the 2 plates inside the fat freezing handle which is why we chose the clatuu fat freezing machine. This gives the smoothest skin results and best fat loss.

The cheap machines also do not give good results. So even if the price they are quoting is cheap you will need to repeat any session to get any type of visible fat loss.

No – unfortunately anyone can import the cheap machines and tell you they have been trained (ie read the confusing foreign instruction manual). However at our Fat Freezing Melbourne clinics our clinicians are all extensively trained in Cryolipolysis / Fat Freezing treatments. Why would you risk your body and health with just anyone?

Post-Treatment Care

It is usual for the area to feel tender immediately after the procedure.

The treated area will feel cold after the procedure.

Temporary bruising and numbness in the treated area can also occur (although this is rare)

Avoid hot baths, steam rooms and massage for 24 hours after the treatment.

Yes – after 30 days we can treat the same area again, this will give you further fat reduction/fat loss on the same area. New areas can be treated on the same day as the initial area or as soon as you are comfortable to have further treatment.
